How to distinguish the input and output terminals of toroidal transformers

Toroidal transformer is a kind of transformer. It is a device through electromagnetic conversion. Its input voltage and input voltage are related to the number of turns wound on the iron core coil.

Toroidal transformers, like other transformers, have input and output terminals. If the input and output terminals of the toroidal transformer are reversed, the consequences will be very serious. For example, the original 380V to 24V transformer, the input becomes the output after the reverse connection, and the output terminal will increase the voltage by 20 times after the reverse connection. At this time, the winding insulation performance of the output terminal (the original input terminal) is not up to the standard, and heat and smoke will appear immediately. Causes the transformer to be directly damaged, and in serious cases it will cause a safety accident. Therefore, it is very important to correctly distinguish the input and output terminals of the toroidal transformer.

The structure of the toroidal transformer is different from other transformers in that the toroidal transformer has no obvious input and output identification, so the input and output of the toroidal transformer is an important task before surface installation.

How to distinguish the input and output terminals of toroidal transformers:

1. Instrumental test method: Use a universal meter to measure the resistance of the transformer. The larger winding resistance is the input end; the smaller resistance is the output end.

2. Appearance judgment method: If the toroidal transformer is used for step-down, the number of windings will increase, and the thinner enameled wire used is the input end; the one with less windings and the thicker wire diameter is the output end. When the transformer is used for boosting, the input end is the one with fewer windings and thicker wire diameter; the output end is the one with more windings and thinner wire diameter.

3. Check the labeling method: Most of the toroidal transformers will have a label. Look carefully at the label before connecting. The input and output voltage parameters of the transformer, the lead color of the input and output terminals, etc. will be described in detail on the label.
